Malefu is not yet the writer she would like to become. Alongside yoga and tea, writing is her therapy. She’s a co-author of a for-school-learners short story anthology, Di Mameleng Ha Di Phethwa, available from UNISA Press.
Malefu is a storyteller and works with a storytelling NGO – Kwesukela Storytelling Academy, and received some theatre performance training at Mmabana Cultural Centre in Thaba Nchu as a teenager. A research student with the University of the Witwatersrand, doing research on Computational Linguistics for African Languages of Southern Africa and an alumina of Erasmus Mundus Aesop with the University Politehnica of Bucharest in Romania, where she did research under Computer Sciences focusing on Natural Language Processing. She is a growing language computing researcher, having published research work with the ‘Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’. She’s tried blogging and has article published on ‘expressimpress‘ on homosexuality. She’s recently been selected to represent Africa at the International Youth Seminar on Life and Zen, in China and hopes to come back with good stories.
Other than that, Malefu is working on building electronic language specific learning resources for school learners coming from native South African languages cultures.
